Ghor Flood Victims: Aid Must Not Fall into Taliban Hands

RASC News Agency: Residents of Ghor province in western Afghanistan insist that aid should not be controlled by the Taliban and must be directly accessible to the people. One Ghor resident, speaking anonymously to RASC News on Wednesday, May 22, stated that the Taliban have consistently failed to distribute aid equitably, often depriving people of their rightful assistance.

He emphasized that aid must be distributed to families who truly need it. He added that although domestic and international aid was recently sent to several families in Ghor, the Taliban have yet to distribute it. “If the Taliban continue this approach, flood-affected families will once again be left empty-handed,” he said.

Meanwhile, several flood-affected families in Ghor told RASC News that, in these critical times, they urgently need support from merchants and philanthropists to receive the aid they desperately require. They reported that they have gone without food for several nights and have endured complete hunger. They emphasized that the devastation in Ghor’s cities and districts has exceeded expectations, and many families are now unable to live without their lost members.

These victims implored the Taliban and aid organizations, stating, “If there is any humanity left, please help us and rescue us from this dire situation.” Baqir Olawi, a civil activist in western Afghanistan, confirmed the lack of fairness in the distribution of aid to some families. He urged those responsible for the aid to act with integrity and not deprive the vulnerable of their rights.

“If justice is not served by the Taliban and the aid organizations, the people’s suffering will bring them to their knees,” he said. Reports indicate that three helicopters have arrived in Ghor from central Afghanistan. These flights aim to deliver aid to the flood-affected families.
