On Tuesday, May 21, a 200-ton shipment of aid from Uzbekistan was handed over by Ismatulla Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, to Rahmatullah Fazil, the Taliban’s Chief of Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Hairatan border.
The aid from Uzbekistan includes flour, rice, wheat, oil, meat, water tanks, tents, and other essential items needed by those affected by the recent floods. During the handover, Irgashev stated that his country’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan would continue and urged the Taliban to promptly distribute the aid to the flood victims.
Several provinces, including Baghlan, Ghor, Takhar, Badakhshan, Faryab, Badghis, and Samangan, have recently experienced devastating floods, resulting in hundreds of deaths and displacing thousands of families.
