Sources from Balkh province disclosed to the media on Saturday, May 10th, that over 210 individuals in the central districts of Balkh and Balkh-e-Payen have succumbed to the recent floods.

According to sources from Balkh-e-Payen, over two thousand homes in the “Fulol” area and several villages in this district have been obliterated due to these floods. The sources recount that most families in the “Fulol” area have lost between eight to twelve members in the recent flood. Sources indicate that the bodies of many flood victims have not yet been recovered, and the casualty count may rise.

Meanwhile, Mawlawi Nasir Ahmad, the head of the people’s council in central Balkh, noted that nearly 100 bodies have been transported to the provincial hospital of this province thus far. Furthermore, local sources from Badakhshan province report that recent flooding in the Tishkan district of this province has claimed the lives of at least five individuals. According to sources, nearly 200 residential houses, 50 bridges, 30 electricity poles, and five religious school buildings have been demolished, and over two thousand heads of livestock owners in the area have perished.

On the other hand, Taliban authorities from Takhar province have announced that astonishing floods in the districts of Namakab, Farkhar, Ashkamish, Chal, and Kalafgan of this province have resulted in the deaths of at least 20 individuals. Ahmad Saeed Sajid, the head of the Taliban’s disaster response department in Takhar, stated that the flooding on Friday night, May 9th, destroyed dozens of residential houses and hundreds of hectares of agricultural land in parts of the Chal, Farkhar, Ashkamish, Namakab, and Kalafgan districts.
