RASC News Agency: Local sources in Faryab Province have informed the media that “unknown armed assailants” have killed a man and his young son in the province’s capital. Sources told RASC News Agency on Thursday, May 9, that a 70-year-old man named Qorban and his 10-year-old son were shot and killed the previous night at his workplace in the “Tatar Khana” district of Maimana city.

Further reports indicate that this 70-year-old man was shot down in his shop, which is located near a base of the Taliban’s Rapid Reaction Intelligence unit. Shamsullah Mohammadi, the Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture in Faryab, confirmed the murders, stating that a suspect has been detained in connection with the crime.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. These incidents occur amid claims by the Taliban of having established nationwide security. Additionally, two more people were murdered on the same day in Nangarhar Province.
