US Representative Condemns Attack on Worshipers in Herat

RASC News Agency: Rina Amiri, the US Special Representative for Afghanistani Women’s Affairs, condemned the recent attack on Shia worshipers in Herat province. Amiri made this statement on Thursday, May 2, in a post on her X account, noting that the violent act serves as a reminder of the relentless persecution of vulnerable communities.

On Monday evening, an attack by ISIS gunmen on a Shia mosque in the Guzara district of Herat resulted in the deaths of six people, including women and children, and left one person injured. Earlier, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that nearly 40 people had been killed in the span of two months due to ISIS attacks across various provinces under Taliban rule.

These attacks targeted both civilians and members of the Taliban, despite the group’s officials repeatedly claiming that ISIS had been suppressed and no longer had a physical presence in Afghanistan.

Previously, neighboring and regional countries repeatedly expressed concern about the presence and activity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, but the Taliban have consistently dismissed these concerns as unfounded.
