RASC News Agency: The Taliban police command in Badakhshan province announced that a young man drowned after attempting to escape Tajik border forces by jumping into a river. Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Badakhshan, stated on Sunday, April 28, that the incident occurred in the Shighnan district of the province.

According to Kamgar, the 25-year-old young man had been detained by Tajik border forces on charges of smuggling hashish and jumped into the river to escape, which led to his death. Kamgar added that the young man was originally from Takhar province and ran a shop in the cross-border market between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

The Taliban police spokesperson also mentioned that the young man’s body has not yet been recovered, and search efforts continue. Earlier this year, in March, at least seven Afghanistani citizens were shot by Tajik border forces after attempting to enter Tajikistan illegally.

This incident occurred when the individuals tried to cross into Tajikistan through the border village of Nowabad in the Chah Ab district of Takhar.
