RASC News Agency: Sources in Turkey have informed the media that police have detained 56 Afghanistani asylum seekers in the city of “Balıkesir” in the northwest of the country. Government sources in Turkey reported today, Wednesday, Mar 3, that these asylum seekers were arrested as they attempted to leave the country via sea routes.

According to reports from Turkish media, asylum seekers and human traffickers from the villages of Marmara, Orbandi, Edremit, Susurluk, and Ayvalik in the city of Balıkesir have been detained. The report added that alongside them, three trucks, a sum of money, four boats, and nearly 139 liters of oil were discovered and confiscated in these operations.

Previously, Afghanistani asylum seekers have also been detained and deported following Turkey’s stricter policies towards asylum seekers in the country. It is worth mentioning that the attack on a concert in the city of Crocus, Russia, has led to an increase in the detention and deportation of asylum seekers in Turkey.
