RASC News Agency: Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, asserted in her latest remarks that what happened in Afghanistan will not be forgotten. She made these statements on Thursday, Mar 21, during a conversation with reporters, condemning the violation of fundamental rights of women and girls in Afghanistan and the increase in gender-based violence by the Taliban in that country.
She said, “We condemn gender apartheid and remember it as a strong stance of the European Parliament.” The President of the European Parliament added that she had met with a group of “brave” Afghanistani women in Lisbon, Portugal, who had escaped from the Taliban’s grip and are currently studying and striving to build new lives in Europe.
These remarks come from Metsola at a time when the Taliban have violated the fundamental rights of women and girls over the past two and a half years. Under the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, girls have been deprived of the right to education, and hundreds of women have been detained and imprisoned for demanding their rights.
