RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the appointment of Tajuddin Oyewale as its new representative in Afghanistan under Taliban governance. UNICEF publicly disclosed Oyewale’s assignment today, Tuesday, March 19th. Oyewale, originally from Nigeria, holds a medical degree.
Previously, Oyewale served as UNICEF’s representative in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in addition to holding the position of Deputy Representative in Pakistan. Before Oyewale, Fran Equiza held the position of UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan. UNICEF is one of the aid organizations actively involved in various sectors in Afghanistan. The vital work and initiatives of UNICEF in Afghanistan’s health and education sectors ensure that numerous students benefit from these essential resources amid recent country developments.
It is notable that since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan and the cessation of foreign aid, the nation has experienced a surge in unemployment and poverty, coupled with a sharp decline in its currency’s value, further exacerbating these crises. Meanwhile, under various pretexts, the United States has frozen seven billion dollars in foreign exchange reserves of the Afghanistan central bank during Taliban rule as part of sanctions against the Taliban.
