RASC News Agency: In response to Richard Bente’s recent report as the special rapporteur of the United Nations on the human rights situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan has declared that the report illustrates the Taliban’s disregard for human rights.

Under the leadership of Ahmad Massoud, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan addressed this issue on Friday, Mar 1, through a statement, emphasizing that Richard Bente’s report provides a detailed and poignant depiction of the continued and intensified oppressive behavior of the Taliban towards the Afghanistani people. This behavior signifies the group’s blatant hostility towards all human rights values.

In its statement, the Front outlined that the Taliban’s increasing restrictions on political and civil liberties, lack of rule of law, and violation of individual rights and security through extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions of security officials, civil servants of the previous government, human rights defenders, and women persist.

The National Resistance Front stated that another positive aspect of this report is its attention to the root causes and historical background of the Taliban’s enmity with human rights, demonstrating that the group is incompatible with international human rights laws and treaties. Expecting a change in their behavior through dialogue and interaction is unrealistic.

Furthermore, the Front added in its statement that Mr. Bente’s report is being released at a time when the Taliban has not allowed him to travel to Afghanistan to report on his findings in recent times. According to this anti-Taliban Front, Mr. Bente’s efforts in seeking alternative ways to communicate with victims of human rights violations are commendable.

Finally, the National Resistance Front emphasized that it considers any access of the terrorist and illegitimate Taliban group to Afghanistan’s financial reserves, which does not benefit Afghanistan’s economic stability, as illegal. It urged all countries with assets to preserve these reserves until the establishment of a legitimate government based on the free will of Afghanistan is secured.
