RASC News Agency: Reports from Ghor province in western Afghanistan indicate that several underage girls have been detained by individuals affiliated with the Taliban group for undisclosed reasons. A credible source in Ghor province, speaking anonymously to the RASC News Agency on Friday, Feb 23, disclosed that the incident occurred yesterday in the Lal wa Sarjangal district of the province, triggering outrage among some residents.
The source further emphasizes that the current situation for girls and women is exceedingly dire, with many unable to leave their homes. According to reports from locals, some of the girls and women in the Lal wa Sarjangal district of Ghor province are being held captive by the Taliban, anxiously awaiting their freedom. The source highlights that the Taliban’s restrictions on girls and women have fueled resentment toward the group’s interpretation of Islam among many.
Meanwhile, another source in Ghor province confirms that the girls detained by the Taliban were four individuals identified as Hazaras. The source adds that the Taliban are presently directly targeting Afghanistani girls and women. According to the source, initially, the Taliban prohibited girls and women from attending schools and universities, and now they detain them for unspecified reasons, escorting them to prison. Some of these girls and women are held captive by the Taliban, while others are confined to their own homes out of fear of the Taliban.
In the meantime, Ghafoor, a resident of Ghor province, informed the RASC News Agency that the Taliban patrol the streets and alleys of the province vigorously with Ranger motorcycles to apprehend girls and women who appear beautiful and relatively unveiled. Ghafoor expressed, “The fate awaiting these young girls and women remains uncertain.” He noted that only a limited number of women over a certain age are seen in the markets of Ghor province.
Furthermore, Zahra Hakimi, a women’s rights activist in Afghanistan, conveyed to the RASC News Agency that the Taliban believe they can regress women and achieve their objectives through their unlawful actions. She added that the Doha meeting was a pivotal moment for Afghanistan, and it is highly probable that the Taliban will pursue their own agenda, establishing a new government for the people of Afghanistan.
Moreover, Taliban officials in Ghor province declined to provide any information to the RASC News Agency regarding the abduction of underage girls. It is noteworthy that this is not the first instance of young girls and women from various provinces of Afghanistan being abducted by individuals associated with the Taliban for undisclosed reasons.
