RASC News Agency: According to the Islamabad police, an Afghanistani migrant man has taken his own life due to the lack of progress in his immigration case to Canada, effectively ending his life. In a statement released on social media, the police announced that the man committed suicide on Friday evening, Feb 16, in the Bihari Koh area of Islamabad.
The police statement, citing the spouse of the asylum seeker, highlighted that the man resorted to suicide due to the stagnation in his immigration case. The Islamabad police further revealed that this asylum seeker had previously attempted suicide. Moreover, sources among Afghanistani migrants in the Bahara Koh area of Islamabad have informed the media that the asylum seeker, identified as Mohammad Shafaei, took his own life in his home on Friday evening.
Reportedly, Shafaei hailed from the Jaghuri district in Ghazni province, and his body was transferred from the hospital to a mosque in the Bahara Koh area for funeral rites before being repatriated to Afghanistan after the necessary bathing rituals. It is noteworthy that this is not the first instance of asylum seekers’ suicides in Pakistan. Prior to this incident, Afghanistani migrant youths have ended their lives due to delays in processing their immigration cases.
This occurrence coincides with the Taliban’s takeover of the country, prompting many individuals facing threats from this group to migrate to neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, in pursuit of humanitarian visas.
