RASC: Asif Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs, has announced a conversation with Fereydon Sinirlioglu, the UN Secretary-General’s special coordinator for Afghanistan affairs, about the “recognition of the Taliban group”.
After his visit to Iran, Fereydon Sinirlioglu visited Pakistan and met with Special Representative Asif Ali Durrani and Deputy Foreign Minister Hana Rabbani Kahar.
Durrani wrote in a tweet last night (Monday, July 24) that the recognition of the Taliban group, shelters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban, women’s rights, banking restrictions, frozen assets and the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan were among the topics of his conversation with the UN coordinator.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has also announced that Hana Rabbani met with the UN coordinator and in this meeting; she talked about the international effort to create sustainable economic paths for ordinary Afghanistani people, especially women and girls.
Hana Rabbani has announced that Pakistan is committed to cooperation with the international community in this regard.
The United Nations has not yet provided any details about the meetings of Fereydon Sinirlioglu with Pakistani officials.
During his trip to Kabul, Durrani has already discussed with the UN coordinator about the recognition of the Taliban.
After the escalation of tension between Pakistan and the Taliban, he arrived in Kabul on Wednesday last week and met with a number of senior officials of the Taliban group.
According to Pakistani media reports, Durrani has been entrusted with the task of conveying Pakistan’s “clear message” to the Taliban and warning of the end of that country’s patience.
However, after a three-day trip to Kabul, Durrani announced the continuation of Pakistan’s active interaction with the Taliban group.
According to the Dan newspaper, Mr. Durrani said that he emphasized Pakistan’s firm commitment to cooperate closely with the Taliban group in order to advance the goals that will strengthen peace and security in the region.
