RASC News Agency: Local authorities of the Taliban in Faryab province have announced the detention of a physician and the owner of a pharmacy on charges of administering a fatal dose of Seftriaxone to a child in the region. Tolo News reported on Wednesday, Feb 14, that the press office of the Taliban’s security command in Faryab disseminated this information through a public newsletter.
According to the newsletter, these individuals were apprehended by the group’s security forces in Khairabad village of Dolat Abad district in the province. Following a comprehensive examination of the child’s body by physicians, the suspected individuals were arrested by the Taliban’s security forces and are currently held in their custody. This development occurs as the healthcare system in the country faces numerous challenges following the Taliban’s takeover, including a shortage of specialized doctors and nurses due to restrictions imposed by the group.
Earlier, the Human Rights Watch expressed in a report that the substantial reduction in foreign aid and the Taliban’s abuses have endangered the health and lives of millions of Afghanistani. Simultaneously, Rina Amiri, the US Special Representatives for Afghanistani Women, stated that the healthcare crisis in Afghanistan under Taliban rule is a consequence of the extremist policies of the group.
However, the Taliban refute these claims and assert that the healthcare system in Afghanistan has improved under their control, citing the establishment of several medical centers across the country.
