RASC News Agency: Local sources from Faryab province report that a former soldier named “Khaso” was shot by “unidentified gunmen” in the Almar district of the province. Sources informed the media on Sunday, Feb 11, that unidentified gunmen shot Khaso in the village of “Gholbaleh” near the Almar district yesterday evening.
According to these sources, the 35-year-old former soldier had served in the local police forces of the previous government for nearly seven years. The Taliban group confirmed the incident and stated that unidentified gunmen fled the scene after the murder. However, the Taliban have not provided any opinion on whether the deceased individual served in the former regime.
This incident occurs as the number of mysterious killings of former government soldiers has risen in various provinces of the country following the resurgence of the Taliban. In an incident dated February 3rd, unidentified armed individuals also shot a former government soldier who had returned from Iran in Parwan province.
Reports suggest that in most cases, the killings of former soldiers, as well as some targeted and mysterious killings, involve members of the Taliban group, attributing them to unidentified armed individuals.
