RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) declared on January 27th that the suspension of “NAI,” the organization supporting Afghanistan’s free media, represents an irreparable loss for the media community in Afghanistan. The AFJC disclosed that the Taliban group has imposed severe restrictions on the continuation of NAI’s activities, precipitating this development.
Ahmad Quraishi, the executive director of the Afghanistan Journalists Center, conveyed his disappointment over the suspension and underscored NAI’s significant role in supporting journalists and free media in Afghanistan. He expressed optimism that NAI’s activities would soon resume, enabling the organization to perpetuate its vital work alongside other active entities in the field.
Over the past 18 years, NAI has collaborated with various international institutions to bolster journalists and free media in Afghanistan. Their endeavors have encompassed journalist training programs and legal assistance for the media community. However, following the Taliban’s return to power, NAI officials were compelled to depart the country.
Mujib Khelwatgar, the head of NAI, had previously announced that the institution’s activities had been halted due to undisclosed reasons, which will be disclosed to the media later. The absence of NAI’s support reverberates deeply within Afghanistan’s media landscape, underscoring the urgent need to expedite the establishment of requisite conditions for the resumption of their activities.
