RASC News Agency: The local authorities of the Taliban group in Baghlan province have reported that two children have died, and seven others have been injured due to an explosion caused by an explosive device in the province. According to a newsletter released by the security command of the Taliban group in Baghlan, this incident occurred in the village of “Kohna Qala” in central Baghlan city.
Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani, the spokesperson for the Taliban security command, stated on January 17th that the explosion took place while the children were attempting to sell the explosive device to a blacksmith. All the victims of this tragic event are children. It is distressing to note that the presence of leftover explosive materials from the war and planted mines has resulted in the deaths of numerous children in various parts of the country.
Furthermore, the head of coordination and demining for the Taliban group had previously announced that since the beginning of this year, 120 individuals have lost their lives in such incidents, with an additional 250 individuals sustaining injuries. The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has also expressed concern regarding the rising number of children killed by the explosion of unexploded ammunition in Afghanistan.
It is crucial to address the ongoing threat posed by unexploded mines in several areas of the country, as these dangerous remnants from four decades of war continue to endanger lives. Reports indicate that the extent of these hazardous areas spans nearly 606 square kilometers.
