RASC News Agency: Sirajuddin Haqqani, the acting Minister of Interior for the Taliban, has conveyed his aspiration for the group to attain membership in “significant international organizations.” These sentiments were expressed during a meeting with Rafaela Iodice, the chargé d’affaires of the European Union in Afghanistan, on Wednesday, January 17th. Haqqani envisions the Taliban’s inclusion in these institutions as a means to address various issues. The Ministry of Interior of the Taliban group has released a newsletter highlighting Haqqani’s statements.

In their meeting, Haqqani and Iodice also deliberated on an upcoming gathering in Doha, Qatar, scheduled for the next month. This meeting aims to assemble countries involved in Afghanistan-related matters. While the European Union has not yet disclosed its position on this event, it is likely that the meeting, hosting representatives and special envoys from various countries and facilitated by the United Nations Secretary-General, will convene in Qatar.

It is crucial to note that the Taliban group has not garnered recognition from any country, and invitations to numerous international organization meetings, including those held by the United Nations, have eluded them. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently commented on the recognition of the Taliban in Afghanistan, emphasizing that for acceptance by the international community, the group must establish an inclusive government and refrain from decisions adversely affecting the daily lives of the Afghanistani people. Guterres underscored the importance of preserving freedom of expression and ending arbitrary arrests, particularly of individuals advocating for women’s rights.
