RASC News Agency: Mohammad Mohaqiq, the leader of the People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, has recently addressed the issue of the arrest of girls and women in Kabul city by the Taliban group for not wearing hijab. In a message shared on the X social media, Mr. Mohaqiq voiced his concern that this selective action was merely an excuse to humiliate a specific ethnic group. He emphasized that kidnapping and disrespecting girls in Kabul under the pretext of not wearing a veil was a clear act of ethnic and religious humiliation.
Mr. Mohaqiq further criticized the interim administration of the Taliban group for adding another page to their long list of human rights violations. Despite the recent arrests of numerous young girls from the Dasht-e-Barchi area in Kabul, allegedly for not observing the hijab, he highlighted that this action was unjustifiable. By targeting women and girls, the Taliban group continues to perpetuate a cycle of oppression and disregard for basic human rights.
Previously, Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front, also condemned the actions of the Taliban group and warned that such behavior would lead to their own downfall. While expressing solidarity with the arrested women, he stressed that ignoring the crimes committed by the Taliban could not be justified.
Moreover, Amnesty International has also called on the Taliban to cease their suppression of women and release those who have been detained. The organization emphasized that the arbitrary suppression and detention of women by the Taliban further violates their freedom of movement and expression, undermining the progress made by Afghanistani women over the past two decades.
