RASC News Agency: On January 3rd in Kabul province, sources report that the Taliban group has once again exhibited arbitrary and violent behavior towards women and girls. For the third consecutive day, the group has reportedly arrested several women and girls from the city, citing “bad hijab” as the grounds for their detention. These sources reveal that Taliban members arrested these women, alleging non-compliance with the hijab requirements set by the group. It is deeply disconcerting that, over the past two days, numerous women have faced arrest and torture by the Taliban for similar reasons.
The majority of those detained by the Taliban are said to be teenage girls and students, apprehended for failing to adhere to the group’s hijab regulations. The situation is further compounded by the alarming manner in which these arrests take place, as witnessed in the Qala-e-Now area of Dasht-e-Barchi, where several girls were reportedly taken away by the Taliban without any police presence. This disturbing trend underscores the severe threat to people’s honor, dignity, and reputation.
An anonymous source emphasized that the girls apprehended and taken by the Taliban were wearing proper hijab. However, recent reports indicate that, over the past two days, the Taliban has been arresting numerous women and girls, subjecting them to beatings and torture, and forcibly relocating them to security areas across different parts of Kabul, including the stretch from “Pul-e-Sorkh” to “Qalae-e-Now” in Dasht-e-Barchi.
It is crucial to highlight that since their ascent to power, the Taliban has ruthlessly oppressed women and girls, resorting to extreme violence against them. They have imposed restrictions on their participation in society, dismissing both internal and international concerns. Despite facing backlash from both domestic and foreign entities, the Taliban has demonstrated a lack of concern for the consequences of their actions.
