RASC News Agency: Ashraf Ghani, the former president of Afghanistan, recently conducted an interview in which he underscored the critical importance of the Taliban paying attention to the well-being of women and girls in Afghanistan. Ghani’s statement expressed the view that those who enforce restrictions on women should also bear the responsibility of ensuring they have the necessary means to sustain their lives.
Furthermore, he illuminated how the restrictions imposed by the Taliban have led to numerous women being confined to their homes, facing severe economic circumstances. Ghani emphasized that the prohibition of women’s work is tantamount to a gradual erosion of vitality, impacting not only their economic well-being but also their spirit and soul.
Addressing the ban on women’s work and education in Afghanistan, Ghani argued that such restrictions are inherently self-destructive. He likened it to a metaphorical act of shooting oneself in the foot, emphasizing the detrimental consequences it inflicts on the entire country.
It is noteworthy that Ghani made these remarks when he flee Afghanistan approximately two and a half years ago, leaving the nation under the control of the Taliban. Despite Ghani’s persistent appeals to the Taliban to lift the imposed restrictions on women and girls, the group has yet to respond positively to these demands.
The Taliban group has consistently rejected appeals from various national and international organizations, as well as foreign countries, to revoke the restrictions imposed on Afghanistani women and girls and to safeguard their rights.
