RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar province report that Taliban forces have arrested the son of Gul Bibi, a 55-year-old woman who died two weeks ago after being brutally beaten by members of the group. According to the sources, Abdul Wahid, the son of Gul Bibi, was detained by the Taliban in the Darqad district of Takhar province. Reports from Saturday, November 16, indicate that Abdul Wahid was physically assaulted by Taliban members before being taken into custody. He was reportedly arrested on the morning of Monday, November 11, in Darqad district and subsequently transferred to the Taliban’s intelligence office in Taloqan, the provincial capital.
The Taliban have allegedly denied Abdul Wahid’s family the right to visit him, and no official explanation for his arrest has been provided. Sources speculate that his detention may be linked to his decision to speak publicly about the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death. Abdul Wahid had previously shared details with the media, highlighting the brutal treatment his mother endured at the hands of the Taliban, which ultimately led to her death.
Gul Bibi’s tragic death occurred two weeks ago following a violent assault by Taliban forces during a land dispute. According to reports, her family had been involved in a protracted legal battle with another family over the ownership of a piece of land. The Taliban court ruled in favor of the opposing family, a decision Gul Bibi deemed unjust and sought to challenge. Her resistance to the court’s ruling prompted the Taliban’s violent response, leading to severe injuries that claimed her life days later in the hospital.
This case underscores broader concerns regarding the Taliban’s use of violence, intimidation, and unlawful detention to suppress dissent and protect the interests of their affiliates. It adds to a growing body of evidence documenting human rights abuses under Taliban rule.
