RASC News Agency: In the wake of the widely reported murder of Ghafar Hamdard, a medical professor and former head of a teaching hospital in Maiwand, the Taliban’s information and culture department in Farah province has recently announced that their group’s police forces have apprehended an individual on charges related to this crime. As conveyed in a post by Khalid Zadran on the social media platform X, the physician in question was assassinated on Wednesday, December 27, in Kart-e-Naw, Kabul, by unidentified armed individuals.
In an official statement, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s police confirmed that their forces have detained an individual identified by Mr. Hamdard’s family as the assailant, and a thorough investigation into this matter is currently underway. Providing further details on this incident, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s police in Kabul elucidated, “On Wednesday evening, December 27, unidentified armed individuals killed physician Ghafar Hamdard in front of his clinic in the Kart-e-Naw area, the eighth district of Kabul.”
Reports highlight that the murder of this physician, regarded by some as an intellectual asset of the country, has sparked significant reactions from citizens and triggered extensive discussions on social media. While the rate of suicide and explosive attacks has decreased since the Taliban assumed control of the country, post-control Afghanistan has witnessed a notable increase in various criminal activities, including targeted and enigmatic killings and armed robberies.
In light of claims made by certain citizens, there is an assertion that members of the Taliban group themselves are directly involved in such actions, exhibiting harsh retaliatory behaviors against Afghanistani citizens, particularly non-Pashtun individuals. Earlier reports have surfaced, suggesting that, under the guise of unidentified armed individuals, Taliban members targeted a former government official in Kabul, shooting him and absconding with his vehicle and funds.
