RASC News Agency: According to Pakistani officials, the Maldives has recalled its ambassador from Islamabad following his meeting with a Taliban official. Like numerous other nations, the Maldives does not recognize the Taliban administration. In a statement issued two days ago, the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the recent meeting between Mohamed Thaaha, the Maldivian ambassador to Pakistan, and Ahmad Shakeeb, the Taliban’s charge d’affaires in Pakistan, was not sanctioned by the Maldivian government.

The statement noted that appropriate measures were taken against Ambassador Thaaha on Saturday, though specific details were not disclosed. The Ministry reiterated that the Maldives recognizes Afghanistan’s United Nations representative as the country’s legitimate government and will continue to adhere to UN protocols on the matter. Earlier, the Taliban’s embassy in Islamabad had released a statement announcing that Ambassador Thaaha and Mr. Shakeeb had discussed potential avenues to enhance cooperation and foster trade relations between the Maldives and Central Asian nations through Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the Taliban envoy expressed appreciation to Thaaha and asserted that “Afghanistan seeks constructive relations with all countries and aims to establish itself as a regional hub by prioritizing economic policies.” Subsequently, the Maldives High Commission in Islamabad removed Mohamed Thaaha’s photograph from its official website.
