RASC News Agency: According to Ruchira Kamboj, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, India considers the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan an exigent matter. During the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan held on December 20th, Kamboj underscored India’s direct involvement in ensuring peace and stability in the country. She emphasized the imperative of addressing terrorism and drug trafficking, safeguarding the rights of women, children, and minorities, and establishing an inclusive government under the Taliban regime.

Moreover, Kamboj acknowledged the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, exacerbated by natural disasters and an influx of refugees. She highlighted the significance of providing assistance to the Afghanistani people and mentioned that India actively contributes through material humanitarian aid, scholarships for Afghanistani students, and collaboration with various UN agencies such as the World Food Program and the Office on Drugs and Crime.

Despite the pressing humanitarian needs in Afghanistan, Ramesh Rajasingham, the head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva, indicated that the situation has reached an unprecedented level, with over 29 million people requiring assistance. He expressed concern about the escalating pressure resulting from recent developments.

It is noteworthy that these statements come amid warnings from international institutions to curtail aid to Afghanistan under Taliban control. However, Kamboj’s remarks at the Security Council meeting reiterate India’s commitment to ongoing humanitarian aid for the benefit of the Afghanistani people. Additionally, Kamboj underscored India’s geographical proximity to Afghanistan, characterizing India as Afghanistan’s neighbor and emphasizing the significance of their relationship.
