RASC News Agency: In Jawzjan province, local sources report that Mufti Ehsanullah, an enforcer affiliated with the Taliban’s Department of Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, faced an assault by residents in the third district of Jawzjan city on December 21st. The incident ensued following accusations that the officer had subjected a woman to harassment for non-compliance with the Taliban’s hijab standards in public. Presently, Mufti Ehsanullah is receiving medical treatment at the provincial hospital in Jawzjan.

Despite the Taliban’s stringent constraints on citizens, with a particular focus on youth, women, and girls, the group has yet to address this specific occurrence. Since assuming power, the Taliban has transformed the Ministry of Women’s Affairs into the Department of Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Reports indicate that agents of the group have instituted checkpoints to surveil and govern women’s behavior, attire, and movements. Moreover, there are accounts of the Taliban encroaching upon educational institutions nationwide to oversee the presence of women and girls.

The assertive actions of Taliban agents in Jawzjan province evoke concern among local residents. The episode involving Mufti Ehsanullah illuminates the oppressive character of the group’s governance, particularly in relation to women. The reaction of the Taliban to this incident remains uncertain, but it is evident that their rigorous regulations persist in inciting unrest and discontent among the populace. The international community vigilantly observes the situation in Afghanistan as scrutiny heightens regarding the actions and policies of the Taliban.
