RASC News Agency: The United Nations mission in Kabul issued its most recent quarterly report to the United Nations Security Council on Saturday, December 16th. As per the report, the recent surge in terrorist attacks and explosions in Afghanistan over the past three months has resulted in 65 civilian fatalities and 125 others wounded. The report underscores that unexploded ordnance from the war and intentional attacks utilizing improvised explosive devices are significant factors causing harm to Afghanistani civilians.

The UN representation in Afghanistan additionally reported that, in three distinct attacks on Shia communities in Kabul and Balkh provinces, claimed by ISIS, 39 people were killed, and 87 were injured. Although targeted attacks against Shiites have been reported in Herat in the past month, the UNAMA report does not delve into these incidents. UNAMA’s report chronicles at least 10 extrajudicial killings, 21 arbitrary detentions, and eight cases of torture and mistreatment of officials from the previous government and members of the security forces over the past three months.

Furthermore, the report highlights four extrajudicial killings, 79 arbitrary detentions, and 15 cases of torture and mistreatment against individuals accused of affiliations with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan and ISIS. The UNAMA report also reveals that at least 24 men and four women have been publicly flogged during this period. It is noteworthy that the UN representation, in reference to the ongoing arrests of women activists, mentioned that no charges have been brought against them.
