RASC News Agency: The World Food Programme (WFP), in its ongoing commitment to aiding the people of Afghanistan, recently declared the provision of cash and in-kind assistance to over four million individuals in the country in the past month. On Wednesday, November 29, the World Food Programme conveyed through the X social network that this aid, dispensed in the preceding month, specifically targeted individuals facing economic hardship and living in poverty. The organization emphasized that these provisions were extended to those in need with financial backing from the protection segment for non-combatants and humanitarian aid from the European Union, OCHA, and the Swedish entity recognized as “SIDA.”
This announcement coincides with consistent media coverage of the daily distribution of cash and in-kind aid to families in need across various provinces of the country by the World Food Programme. Notably, the organization had previously voiced concerns about a budget shortfall, underscoring its potential threat to the lives of one million mothers and children in Afghanistan. It’s worth mentioning that while beneficiaries express contentment with international organizations, they are urging both the global community and the Taliban authorities to foster an environment for independent livelihood initiatives.
Moreover, residents from diverse provinces have iterated claims that a substantial portion of the assistance is either misappropriated by individuals linked to the Taliban or distributed based on their preferences. It is noteworthy that, following the Taliban’s assumption of power in Afghanistan, poverty and unemployment in the country have surged to unprecedented levels, precipitating an economic crisis for the Afghanistani people. It is imperative to underscore that poverty and unemployment have compelled numerous young individuals to depart their homeland and seek refuge in neighboring countries to address their families’ needs.
