RASC News Agency: Zamir Kabulov, the special representative of the Russian president for Afghanistan affairs, recently addressed the Taliban group’s request to release the frozen assets of Afghanistan to the United States. During his speech at the international conference on Afghanistan in Tashkent, Kabulov expressed Russia’s support for the Taliban’s request, criticizing the freezing of Afghanistan’s assets by the United States as an act of robbery.
Kabulov specifically voiced his support for Amir Khan Motaqi, the foreign minister of the Taliban group, who demanded the unconditional return of the $7 billion stolen by the United States from Afghanistan. It is important to note that the United States seized over $9 billion of Afghanistan’s foreign currency reserves after the Taliban took control of the country. Russia had previously urged the United States twice to release the frozen funds from Afghanistan.
In addition to Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and several other countries and international institutions have also made similar requests to the United States regarding the frozen assets of Afghanistan. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that, since the Taliban’s takeover, Afghanistan has faced severe economic, social, political, and humanitarian crises.
The United States has argued that freezing the assets was a measure taken to ensure the Taliban’s compliance with their commitments, particularly in terms of respecting human rights, especially women’s rights. Prior to this, human rights officials and legal institutions had called for increased pressure on the Taliban to respect human rights and put an end to crimes against Afghanistani citizens.
