RASC News Agency: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) recently expressed concerns about the situation of Afghanistani asylum seekers being expelled from Pakistan. Nancy Dent, the deputy director of the Asia section at the organization, stated in an interview with Reuters that Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, currently faces an economic crisis and lacks the capacity to accommodate the returning immigrants. According to Dent, forcibly returning Afghanistani asylum seekers from Pakistan may exacerbate the economic crisis and worsen the overall situation in Afghanistan. She emphasized that Afghanistan lacks the capacity to absorb the thousands of asylum-seeking households expected to arrive, further contributing to the economic crisis faced by Afghanistani citizens.
Furthermore, Dent highlighted the urgency of the situation with the approaching winter and rapidly deteriorating conditions. She stated that the return of these immigrants would likely deteriorate the situation for the entire country and lead to a significant decrease in the economy. This is compounded by the fact that the Taliban, which now controls Afghanistan, has been subjected to international sanctions due to its non-compliance with human rights and failure to fulfill international obligations.
It is worth noting that Pakistan has set a deadline for Afghanistani immigrants to stay in the country, and reports indicate that thousands of people are being forcibly deported from Pakistan to Afghanistan on a daily basis. This influx of returning immigrants further adds to the challenges Afghanistan faces in its current economic crisis.
