RASC News Agency: In light of numerous reports highlighting the widespread violation of human rights by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the foreign and defense ministers of the United States and India have recently urged the Taliban to uphold human rights, particularly those of women and minorities, and honor their commitments. During a meeting in Delhi on November 10th, Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of State and Defense, joined forces with their Indian counterparts, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh, to issue a joint statement conveying these demands.
The meeting between the foreign and defense ministers of the United States and India took place as part of the 2+2 negotiations in Delhi, where they engaged in discussions regarding the state of human rights, security concerns, and the ongoing crises in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. A joint statement was subsequently released on the website of the US Department of State, emphasizing the ministers’ call for the Taliban to honor their commitments and prevent any individual or group from utilizing Afghanistan’s territory to pose a threat to global security. In their statement, the foreign and defense ministers of the United States and India referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2593, which emphasizes that Afghanistan should not become a safe haven for terrorists who could later endanger other nations.
Despite concerns expressed by various countries and international bodies regarding the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, the Taliban has consistently maintained that such groups have been suppressed within the country. Nevertheless, the foreign and defense ministers of the United States and India remain committed to ongoing discussions and efforts to establish a stable Afghanistan.
