RASC News Agency: Doctors at Faryab Provincial Hospital have observed a rise in mental health disorders among the residents of this province, with a particular focus on women and young girls. On November 9th, Naqibullah Khatibi, a psychiatrist at the hospital, expressed his concern about this trend, stating that the majority of patients fall within the age range of 13 to 35 years old. Moreover, approximately 1,600 individuals with mental illnesses seek treatment at the hospital each month, and a significant number of them require hospitalization. According to Mr. Khatibi, the severity of the situation is evident in the fact that nearly 1.5% of these patients resort to suicide due to the gravity of their condition.
He emphasized that many of these patients do not receive the necessary treatment or attention, leading them to resort to harmful measures such as ingesting poisonous substances or self-harm. Despite the increase in mental health disorders among the population, especially among women and girls, hospitals continue to witness a steady influx of patients on a daily basis.
It is important to note that several factors contribute to the prevalence of mental illnesses in this region. Poverty, unemployment, the impact of ongoing wars, the overall situation in the country, and the challenges faced by young people, particularly girls and women, all play a significant role in the development of these disorders. Addressing these underlying issues is crucial in effectively combating the rising rates of mental health disorders in Faryab Province.
