RASC News Agency: As the winter season approaches, discontent is echoing among the residents of Kabul regarding the exorbitant prices of fuel, particularly coal and wood, in the city. These individuals, who are grappling with economic difficulties and a lack of employment opportunities, express their inability to afford essential fuel for the upcoming season.
Amidst these circumstances, a concerned citizen of Kabul lamented, “The absence of job opportunities and means of sustenance has plunged people into abject poverty. With unemployment rampant and the cost of a bag of coal ranging from 1,500 to 1,700 or even 2,000 Kabuli rupees, the challenges faced by the people are truly insurmountable.”
Such grievances voiced by citizens resonate nationwide, as the approaching winter heightens the already burdensome prices of fuel and essential commodities. These complaints arise in a backdrop where Afghanistan, under Taliban control, grapples with various challenges, including the expulsion and forced repatriation of over a million Afghanistani migrants.
It is crucial to note that since the Taliban takeover, unemployment and poverty levels within families have soared, exacerbating the hardships faced by the general populace. Additionally, reports indicate a dearth of effective market regulations and fair price assessment systems, contributing to the escalation of prices and the subsequent emergence of discontent.
Simultaneously, it should be acknowledged that the restrictions imposed by the Taliban have disproportionately impacted Afghanistani women, leading to increased poverty levels and impeding families’ access to basic necessities of life. This further compounds the difficulties faced within communities.
