RASC News Agency: Taliban Minister of Mines and Petroleum Emphasizes Swift Commencement of Copper Extraction at the Mes Aynak Mine during a Meeting with Deputy of “MGIM” Contracting Company
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Group’s acting minister met with the deputy of the contracted company “MGIM” on Thursday, October 19, to discuss the proposed new project and other matters concerning the Aynak copper mine.
In addition to emphasizing the need for expedited copper extraction operations at the Aynak mine, the Taliban Minister of Mines and Petroleum Group stated, “We are prepared for any cooperation in order to commence work and activities on the Aynak copper project.”

However, concerns have been raised about the Taliban’s involvement in mining operations. Some sources allege that the Taliban has been unilaterally terminating contracts with multinational companies, seizing control of the major mines, and utilizing them for their own benefit. Such actions not only undermine the stability and reputation of the mining sector but also neglect the necessary investments in essential infrastructure and public services.

The reports of the Taliban exploiting mines for personal interests highlight a growing challenge for the Taliban government. The misappropriation of resources by the Taliban and the lack of transparent governance can have detrimental effects on the country’s economic development, hindering its ability to provide for the needs of its citizens and potentially fueling further unrest.
It is worth mentioning that, with the Taliban’s control over the country, unemployment and poverty among Afghanistani citizens have significantly increased, leading to mass migration and numerous crises in the country.
