RASC News Agency: Following the devastating earthquakes that struck Herat, inflicting extensive damage on its infrastructure and rendering numerous water wells inoperable, UNICEF has expressed grave concern for the well-being of the affected population. Recognizing the urgency of averting disease outbreaks, UNICEF emphasizes the utmost importance of providing the people of Herat with clean and uncontaminated water to safeguard their health.
It is worth noting that UNICEF acknowledges the profound destruction caused by the earthquakes, resulting in a profound scarcity of potable water for the affected populace. In light of this, the organization has taken decisive action by actively and tirelessly transporting clean drinking water to the remote villages most impacted by the tremors on a daily basis. By promptly addressing this pressing need, their aim is to alleviate the suffering endured by the affected communities and ensure their unfettered access to safe drinking water.
Furthermore, UNICEF released a video on their official social media platform, depicting one of their staff members visiting the village of Kushk in Herat to deliver water to children. As reported by the organization, 144 families residing in Kushk were previously devoid of access to drinking water, but this issue has been successfully rectified through their intervention. Each individual now receives a distribution of 15 liters of water, following UNICEF’s equitable distribution method.
Importantly, it must be highlighted that the destruction of numerous water wells in Herat due to consecutive earthquakes has resulted in a severe scarcity of clean and uncontaminated water for the local population. As a consequence, there is a considerable risk of disease outbreaks, particularly the prevalence of severe diarrhea, among those affected. The situation demands immediate attention and action in order to prevent further exacerbation of the issue.
