RASC News Agency: The World Food Program says that since the beginning of this year, it has provided cash assistance to 5.7 million needy people in Afghanistan or provided them with free food through “coupons”.
On Saturday, August 5, the World Food Program said in a tweet that these aids were provided to the needy in Afghanistan through the budget of the United Nations Emergency Secretary’s Office, the French Diplomatic Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
This United Nations agency has stated that the purpose of these aids are to provide the ability to buy goods, reduce food aid and strengthen the local economy to the recipients.
Previously, the World Food Program had said that due to the reduction of the international community’s aid to Afghanistan, this agency will not have a budget to continue helping the people of Afghanistan after October of this year.
Previously, Shao Wei Li, the head of the World Food Program in Afghanistan, said on June 30 that 15 million people in Afghanistan are facing severe hunger and this administration can only help five million of them with food.
Stating that he is “very worried about the winter season”, he said that the World Food Program is facing a deficit of one billion dollars to continue providing aid in the winter season and does not have a budget to provide aid after October.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has expressed concern that the lack of funds in the process of providing aid in various sectors, including health, nutrition, education and safe drinking water, has affected millions of needy people in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Thursday, August 3 that the United Nations is facing a budget deficit of 1.3 billion dollars to continue aid operations in Afghanistan.
