RASC: Dozens of journalists, civil and political activists, academics and officials of the former government, have demanded that the owner of this company, Elon Musk, sanction the members of this group for what they consider to be the promotion of terrorism by the Taliban group using the Twitter platform.
On Thursday, July 13, they sent an open letter to Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, saying that the Taliban group is trying to spread their violent ideas using this platform.
They told Elon Musk that allowing the Taliban group to use this social network weakens the position of this platform in the world.
The letter states: “We ask you to take immediate action and ban Taliban people from using Twitter. A recent UN report showed that the Taliban have maintained symbiotic relationships with global terrorist networks such as Al-Qaeda.’’
In the open letter of civil and political activists and journalists, it is also stated that the Taliban group and the Haqqani network have a long history of violence and human rights violations in Afghanistan, journalists have suppressed activists and their opponents and imposed an atmosphere of fear on the people.
In this letter, Saeed Khosti, the former spokesman of the Ministry of Interior of the Taliban group and a senior member of the Haqqani network, has also mentioned the abuse of Twitter, as he recently threatened to kill the opponents of the Taliban regime in a tweet.
Another part of the letter sent by activists, journalists and academics states: “Banning the terrorist networks of Taliban and Haqqani from Twitter will show your stand against the violence of terrorism.” This letter has been sent to the owner of Twitter while the Taliban group has been using this social network as a base for their propaganda for several years without any restrictions.
