RASC: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that in April 2023, it provided educational services to 573,388 children in Afghanistan.
This institution published its activity report of April today (Monday, June 5) and wrote that it has supported the children of Afghanistan with the existence of a “challenging operational environment”.
According to the UNICEF report, 59% of the children who received educational services in April are girls.
UNICEF has said that these services are provided through 17,856 “community-based education” centers in 30 provinces of Afghanistan.
This institution has said in its report that it has distributed nine million volumes of textbooks in Afghanistan so far, transferred six million volumes to the warehouses of the provinces and will distribute another five million volumes by the end of June.
UNICEF has said that the restrictions imposed against women by the Taliban still affect the provision of humanitarian facilities to vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan.
Since taking over Afghanistan again, the Taliban group has denied women and girls the right to education and work, and in their latest order, they also banned women from working in the United Nations offices in the country.
Humanitarian organizations say that these restrictions on women’s work prevent them from providing the necessary humanitarian services to vulnerable people across Afghanistan.
