Heather Barr: The Taliban Group has Intensified Violence Against Women

RASC: Heather Barr, head of the women’s division of Human Rights Watch, has reported the escalation of repression and violence against Afghanistan women and girls by the Taliban group.

She made these statements in a tweet on Wednesday, May 31, referring to the meeting between the Prime Minister of Qatar and the Taliban leader.

Mrs. Barr adds that the meeting of Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al-Sani with Hebatullah Akhundzada does not indicate the Taliban’s interest in continuing the dialogue with the international community.

According to Mrs. Barr, on one hand, the Taliban are constantly demanding the recognition of their administration and receiving foreign aid, and on the other hand, they have intensified the oppression of women.

Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency recently revealed in a report that the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Sani, met with the Taliban leader Hebatullah Akhundzada on May 11 this year during a trip to Kandahar.

Reuters quoted sources as saying that Mullah Hebatullah is “very interested” in dialogue with the international community.

After taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed many restrictions on women and girls.
