In an official letter, the Ministry of Higher Education of the Taliban has required all professors and faculty of universities in Afghanistan to master and be able to teach in both official languages of Afghanistan (Pashto and Dari/Persian). In this letter, it is stated that the professors should be familiar with both languages and write their scientific works in both languages.

This is the first time that Afghanistan university professors are required to have full knowledge of both Persian and Pashto languages and have the ability to teach.

Previously, the law of Afghanistan’s higher education stated that teaching in Afghanistan’s educational institutions should be done in the official languages of the country. Mostly professors taught in Persian language and in the provinces, which the students were mostly Pashtuns, the professor taught them Pashto language.
