RASC: A number of doctors in government hospitals dominated by the Taliban group say that the lack of female doctors has caused serious problems for patients and hospitals.
An internal medicine specialist at Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Hospital says that the lack of female doctors in hospitals causes incorrect diagnosis and worsens the condition of female patients, especially pregnant women. He adds: “In the department of orthopedics and internal medicine, we have only one female doctor; in the surgery department, we have a limited number of doctors. Since “Exit Exam” is not taken, it is not possible to attract new doctors.
Meanwhile, the head of “Afghan Midwives Association” says that the lack of female doctors in the country is one of the main reasons for the increase in the death of pregnant women. He adds: “obstetricians and gynecologists are not enough; because the majority of them left the country and their place had to be filled and they didn’t take the exit exam because other doctors came to replace them.” According to this medical official, if the shortage of female doctors continues, the death rate of mothers will increase.
This is while a number of female medical graduates are waiting for permission to enter the medical activity exam (exit exam).
