Sarwar Danish: “Prosperity to Pakistan”; I Congratulate the Government and People of Pakistan on This Achievement

RASC News Agency: Sarwar Danish, former Second Vice President of the former Afghanistani republic, has praised Pakistan’s role in mediating the recently announced peace agreement between Iran and the United States, describing it as a significant diplomatic accomplishment with both regional and international implications.

Reacting to the reported agreement, Danish wrote in a post published on his Facebook page on Monday that Pakistan’s mediation represented an example of effective diplomacy conducted with neutrality, respect, and adherence to established diplomatic norms.

In his statement, Danish wrote:

“Pakistan; prosperity and peace to its people.

This was effective and productive mediation, conducted while preserving diplomatic principles and etiquette, maintaining complete neutrality, showing respect toward both parties, and keeping an appropriate distance from each side of the conflict. It constitutes a major regional and international political achievement for the government and people of Pakistan.

I congratulate the Government of Pakistan on this success, and I welcome the beginning of a process aimed at ending the war and finalizing the memorandum of understanding and agreement for the benefit of all countries and peoples of the region, especially the people of Iran.

May enduring peace and stability prevail throughout the region.

I only wish that, in the case of peace efforts concerning Afghanistan, there had been similarly sincere, impartial, and balanced mediation that respected all sides equally. Had such an approach been adopted, perhaps we would not have witnessed the repetition and continuation of conflict and instability.”

Danish’s remarks came only hours after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on the social media platform X that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran had reached an agreement to bring an immediate and permanent end to military operations after more than three months of hostilities.

According to Sharif, the agreement extends to all active fronts linked to the conflict, including Lebanon, where Hezbollah, a key regional ally of Iran, maintains a significant presence. He further stated that the formal signing ceremony is scheduled to take place on 19 June in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has also reportedly confirmed that the memorandum of understanding intended to end the conflict has been finalized and identified the same date for its official signing.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the memorandum is expected to address several key issues, including the cessation of hostilities, the lifting of wartime restrictions, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the withdrawal of American forces from designated conflict zones. However, the long-disputed issue of Iran’s nuclear programme has reportedly been excluded from the initial agreement and is expected to be addressed during a subsequent round of negotiations approximately thirty days after the accord is signed.

Reports further indicate that Pakistan’s mediation efforts began shortly after the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States. Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, alongside Prime Minister Sharif, is said to have played a central role in facilitating contacts between Tehran and Washington.

In a meeting with Pakistan’s military leadership, Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, reportedly described Islamabad as “a trusted mediator for all parties” and commended its diplomatic efforts. Qatar is also understood to have played a significant role in coordinating and drafting elements of the memorandum in consultation with Washington.

Danish’s comments have drawn attention not only because of their endorsement of Pakistan’s diplomatic role but also because of their implicit reflection on Afghanistan’s own troubled peace process. His observation that Afghanistan lacked an impartial and genuinely inclusive mediation framework echoes a broader debate among Afghanistani political figures regarding the shortcomings of previous peace initiatives and the consequences of agreements reached without broad national consensus.

As regional actors continue to assess the implications of the reported Iran–United States understanding, the agreement has increasingly been portrayed by its supporters as a potential turning point for regional diplomacy. Whether it ultimately evolves into a durable framework for peace, however, will depend on the successful implementation of its provisions and the ability of all parties involved to sustain dialogue beyond the initial phase of de-escalation.
