Taliban Intelligence Vehicle Kills Two Women in Nangarhar Amid Persistent Impunity and Negligence

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Nangarhar province have confirmed a tragic incident in which a vehicle affiliated with the Taliban Intelligence Directorate struck and killed two women in Khogyani district. The incident, emblematic of the Taliban’s ongoing disregard for civilian safety and rule of law, has sparked renewed concerns about the regime’s inability or unwillingness to ensure accountability. Eyewitnesses report that the fatal collision occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 26th, in the Chamtali area of Khogyani district. A Toyota Hilux, reportedly traveling at reckless speed, struck the two women as they were walking home from the market. The victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot, underscoring the devastating consequences of Taliban negligence.

Sayed Tayyeb Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, confirmed the incident but minimized it as the result of “driver negligence” and “excessive speed.” The driver was promptly detained and referred to judicial authorities, yet history raises serious doubts about whether this case will receive a transparent and just investigation. This tragic event adds to a disturbing pattern of Taliban forces exhibiting blatant disregard for traffic regulations and public safety. Afghanistani civilians have repeatedly accused Taliban personnel of reckless and dangerous driving, with numerous reports of crashes causing injury and death. However, the Taliban’s opaque judicial system rarely delivers meaningful accountability, leaving victims’ families without justice or compensation.

Although Taliban authorities periodically announce the detention of drivers involved in fatal incidents, these measures have proven superficial at best, with most cases ending in impunity. The persistent absence of transparency and due process erodes public trust and reinforces a culture of lawlessness under Taliban rule. The death of these two women is not merely an isolated traffic accident but a grim symbol of the Taliban’s broader failure to uphold fundamental rights and protections for ordinary Afghans. As the regime continues to prioritize its ideological grip over governance and justice, Afghanistani civilians remain vulnerable to a host of avoidable harms tragic consequences of a regime indifferent to the value of human life.

Without urgent reforms and genuine commitment to accountability, such preventable tragedies will continue to plague Afghanistan’s already beleaguered population, perpetuating cycles of grief, injustice, and fear under Taliban rule.
