RASC News Agency: Amid a surge in armed robberies across several regions of Afghanistan, sources report the tragic killing of a young man in Pul-e-Khumri, Baghlan, by unknown gunmen. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 2nd, with the victim, identified as Peyman Rahimi, having recently purchased a vehicle in hopes of improving his financial situation. He had reportedly turned to passenger transportation in light of growing security challenges in the area. According to sources, Rahimi had returned to Afghanistan from Iran approximately three months ago. On the night of the attack, while traveling toward Samangan, he was ambushed and fatally shot. After the murder, the gunmen fled the scene, taking Rahimi’s vehicle with them. He was originally from the Nijrab district in Kapisa province.
Despite the Taliban’s assertions regarding improved security and a reduction in criminal activity across Afghanistan, this incident along with a rising number of armed robberies in recent days has sparked growing concern among the public. Such crimes are especially prevalent in areas where full security has yet to be established. To date, the Taliban have not issued any statement on the matter, nor have any immediate steps been taken to address the situation. The increase in robberies and unexplained killings continues to raise alarm about the broader security climate in Afghanistan.
