U.S. Congresswoman Urges Stronger Support for Afghanistani Allies

RASC News Agency: U.S. Congresswoman Doris Matsui has emphasized the urgent need for the United States to honor its commitment to its former Afghanistani allies, who risked their lives assisting American forces. She has called on President Donald Trump to ensure the protection of tens of thousands of Afghanistani nationals, many of whom now face grave threats under Taliban rule. On Monday, March 10, Matsui took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the dire plight of Afghanistani allies, stating: “Tens of thousands of Afghanistani citizens who made immense sacrifices during NATO’s mission in Afghanistan remain trapped under Taliban rule due to Trump’s executive orders.” She stressed that these individuals have already undergone extensive security screenings and that their families and sponsors across the United States are desperately awaiting their safe relocation.

Matsui further underscored her position, declaring: “Safeguarding our allies is not just a duty; it is one of America’s fundamental values.” On March 5, she and Representative Jennifer McClellan of Virginia sent a formal letter to President Trump, urging swift action on behalf of Afghanistani refugees. The letter, co-signed by at least 45 other Democratic lawmakers, called on the president to rescind executive orders that have impeded the resettlement process by restricting U.S. refugee admissions and foreign aid programs decisions that have left thousands of Afghanistani evacuees in a state of limbo.

Since Trump’s return to office and his subsequent suspension of refugee admissions, thousands of Afghanistani nationals who had been awaiting relocation to the United States have been abandoned in uncertainty, stranded between bureaucratic delays and the escalating dangers posed by Taliban rule.
