RASC News Agency: Local sources from Baghlan province have reported that the Taliban recently detained and imprisoned two individuals. According to these sources, the detainees were former military personnel of the previous government who have been unemployed since the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. Over the past three weeks, the Taliban have reportedly detained and tortured nearly ten residents of Baghlan province. Most of these arrests have been based on allegations of collaboration with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan or the Freedom Front, as well as accusations of opposing the Taliban regime or engaging in activities deemed unacceptable by the group.
The two former military personnel were detained in Fereng District and Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital of Baghlan. On Tuesday, January 28, sources revealed that Abdul Basit, the son of Abdul Qayoom and a former police officer under the previous government, was abducted by Taliban intelligence on Saturday, January 25, in Fereng District. He is reportedly being subjected to severe torture. Additionally, sources confirmed that Mohammad Haroon, the son of Mahboob and a resident of Marzakhel village in Fereng District, was abducted by Taliban intelligence forces on Sunday night, January 27, in Pul-e-Khumri.
Reports indicate that both Abdul Basit and Mohammad Haroon had no connections with opposition groups and were engaged in private activities after the collapse of the previous government. This latest detention follows an incident last week when Taliban intelligence abducted another former military officer in the same district. The officer was reportedly subjected to brutal torture and is currently in a coma. During the past week, the Taliban have detained five individuals in the Chal District of Takhar province, six individuals in the Andarab and Khost districts of Baghlan, and three individuals in the Nawa District of Helmand. The group has significantly escalated its campaign of arrests in recent months.
