Global Peace Organization: Engaging with the Taliban Betrays the Voice of the Afghanistani People

RASC News Agency: The Global Peace Organization has denounced the soft approach of various nations toward the Taliban, urging an immediate cessation of engagement with the group. The organization deems any interaction with the Taliban as a profound injustice to the Afghanistani people, particularly its women, who have borne the brunt of the group’s oppressive policies. In its report, the organization cautions world powers against “granting any semblance of legitimacy” to Taliban rule. It underscores how the Taliban’s implementation of their so-called Law on the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has effectively erased women from public life, further curtailing their independence and freedoms.

The report reveals that Afghanistan now ranks among the lowest globally on the Women, Peace, and Security Index, reflecting dismal performance in inclusion, justice, and safety for women. The Global Peace Organization categorically brands the Taliban as a suppressive force that has systematically dismantled the civic and human rights of Afghanistani citizens, particularly women. The organization asserts that engaging with the Taliban amounts to willfully ignoring the cries of the Afghanistani people for justice and dignity. It urges the international community to extend unwavering support to Afghanistani women and citizens, emphasizing that no effort should be spared in addressing their dire plight.

Highlighting ongoing discussions between countries such as the United Kingdom, India, and the European Union, as well as global NGOs with the Taliban, the report states:

“To sustain engagement while simultaneously restricting the potential legitimization of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, influential entities like the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which have condemned the misuse of religion for discriminatory ends, must assume a leadership role in advocating for human rights and their enforcement.” The report further posits that organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation could leverage religious arguments to object to the Taliban’s egregious violations, particularly concerning women’s rights.

This report surfaces amidst the Taliban’s establishment of an ethnocentric government in Afghanistan, which has systematically trampled on the civil liberties of minority groups. The group’s imposition of sweeping restrictions, particularly on women, continues to deepen the humanitarian and societal crises facing the nation.
