RASC News Agency: U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett has announced the submission of the “No Taxpayer Funding for Terrorists Act” to the Senate. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Burchett revealed that three senators had introduced the proposed legislation, which is now set for a vote to determine its approval. Burchett urged senators to pass the bill and forward it to President Donald Trump for ratification. The legislation seeks to bar U.S. taxpayer funds from reaching Afghanistan while under Taliban control. Initially introduced by Burchett in the House of Representatives, the bill received approval in the lower chamber but was subsequently blocked from a Senate vote by then-Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Upon taking office as the 47th President of the United States, President Trump issued an executive order suspending all U.S. foreign aid, including assistance to Afghanistan. Efforts to secure the approval and enactment of the “No Taxpayer Funding for Terrorists Act” continue as part of broader initiatives aimed at severing financial channels to extremist organizations. Earlier, Congressman Burchett, representing Tennessee, had formally expressed his concerns over U.S. foreign aid reaching the Taliban. In a letter addressed to President Trump, he called on the administration to collaborate in halting the diversion of taxpayer resources to the militant group.
In his correspondence, Burchett cited reports suggesting that non-governmental organizations had transferred funds to the Taliban during the Biden administration. He demanded immediate transparency and the cessation of such practices. He also highlighted the transfer of substantial cash sums to Afghanistan’s central bank, describing it as a principal source of funding that enables the Taliban to “finance terrorism on a global scale.” Burchett wrote: “The United States must not provide financial aid to adversaries abroad. Such actions only embolden groups that threaten global security and undermine our national interests.”
