RASC News Agency: Richard Kemp, a former senior commander in the British Army, has asserted that there is “no evidence” to indicate U.S. military leaders intentionally undermined their nation’s interests during the chaotic withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan. Speaking to Sky News, Kemp stated: “The reality is that several mistakes were made by military personnel in the execution of this operation; however, these errors cannot be construed as deliberate actions against U.S. national interests.”
Kemp’s remarks follow a report by NBC News claiming that President-elect Donald Trump is considering legal action against U.S. military personnel involved in the withdrawal. According to the report, Trump’s transition team is compiling a list of officers, generals, and current and former service members implicated in the operation. Kemp further elaborated: “The disastrous outcome of the withdrawal is a direct result of specific policies implemented by the Biden administration, highlighting the inherent challenges in this administration’s strategic decision-making process.” The withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan, which has drawn widespread criticism domestically and internationally, remains a contentious issue in American political discourse.
Numerous analysts and experts in the U.S. and abroad have described the withdrawal as “catastrophic.” Over the past three years, the transfer of power to the Taliban has emerged as one of the greatest historical tragedies for the Afghanistani people. Critics argue that the U.S., under the guise of the withdrawal, has provided substantial financial, political, and intelligence support to the Taliban, exacerbating the plight of Afghanistan’s population and further entrenching the group’s oppressive rule.
