RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar province have reported the brutal murder of a former military officer from Afghanistan’s previous government. The victim was stabbed to death with a knife and sickle by unidentified assailants. According to sources, the Taliban have arrested three individuals on charges related to the killing. The Taliban’s police command in Takhar confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were apprehended in Taloqan, the provincial capital, following allegations of involvement in the murder.
A spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Takhar stated on Thursday November 21, that the suspects were detained after allegedly killing a man identified as Awez Mohammad. The incident reportedly followed a verbal altercation, culminating in his death through what was described as a “mysterious” stabbing with a knife and sickle. Another source revealed that Awez Mohammad had served as a member of the former Afghanistan National Army. He was reportedly abducted from his home by unknown individuals three days before his body was discovered. The identities and motives of the perpetrators remain unknown.
The Taliban’s police command in Takhar made no reference to Awez Mohammad’s military background, stating only that he was a resident of Tajik Qishlaq village in the Qara Parchu area of Taloqan city. The command added that investigations into the suspects are currently underway. This incident adds to a growing list of mysterious killings across Afghanistan. In the past two weeks alone, a young man in Nangarhar, a civilian in Farah, and an elderly woman in Faryab have all been murdered under similarly suspicious circumstances.
Since the Taliban’s resurgence in power, reports of targeted killings often involving former military personnel have surged. The group has frequently been accused of orchestrating the murders of former officials and members of the previous government. Many Afghanistani citizens believe that these killings are driven by tribal, ethnic, sectarian, or personal grievances, with the Taliban allegedly carrying out such acts under a veil of secrecy and denial.
